This is the first in a new series by Annette Blair. It's a paranormal mystery set in seaside Connecticut with a fashion designer who comes home for her sister's wedding. This was a cute book and the mystery part was interesting and well put together. But several things bothered me about it.
1: The lead character, Madeira Cutler, and her siblings are named after liquor. I have an abnormal and severe hatred of girls named Brandy and of giving kitschy and themed names to children.
2: Madeira doesn't cuss. She pretends to cuss by using sewing terminology. So instead of saying "FUCK IT" she says "BASTE IT!" Or there's my least favorite "What in the name of Hermes?!" I'm sorry, that's not cute or clever. that's fucking aggravating. And it almost made me want to stop reading. But its also me whose personal standards of taste continue to drop so I finished the book, despite all these obstacles.
